Green Grow The Rashes
03:51
|
|||
There's nought but care on every hand,
In every hour that passes, O:
What signifies the life of man,
If it were not for the lasses, O.
Green grow the rashes , O;
Green grow the rashes , O;
The sweetest hours that e'er I spend,
Are spent among the lasses, O.
The worldly race may riches chase, -
And riches still may fly them, O;
And though at last they catch them fast,
Their hearts can ne'er enjoy them, O.
Green grow the rashes , O;
Green grow the rashes , O;
The sweetest hours that e'er I spend,
Are spent among the lasses, O.
Give me a cannie hour at e'en ,
My arms about my dearie, O;
And worldly cares and worldly men
May a' Gae tapsalteerie, O!
Green grow the rashes , O;
Green grow the rashes , O;
The sweetest hours that e'er I spend,
Are spent among the lasses, O.
For you sae douce , ye sneer at this;
You're nought but senseless asses, O:
The wisest man the world e'er saw ,
He dearly loved the lasses, O.
Green grow the rashes , O;
Green grow the rashes , O;
The sweetest hours that e'er I spend,
Are spent among the lasses, O.
Auld Nature swears, the lovely dears
Her noblest work she classes, O:
Her prentice hans she tried on man,
And then she made the lasses, O.
Green grow the rashes , O;
Green grow the rashes , O;
The sweetest hours that e'er I spend,
Are spent among the lasses, O.

Little Things
03:31
|
|||
Cant help but love the little things, when they’re all that you’ve got
As long as I remember that I’ll be happier than not
Coz when I lost everything I saw that everything aint a lot
Chorus
So you’ll find me feeling free, drinking tangerine and verbena green tea ah ha
And you’ll find me feeling fine, sipping damson and black cherry wine ah ha
The birds are singing in the trees and the river’s running clear
A little more sun every day, there really is nothing left to fear
Cant help but feeling good every single spring every year
Chorus
The blossom’s bursting open. Looks like snow on the ground
The corn is growing fast and tall. New life has been found
Smell the growth in the air I feel like a king just got crowned
Chorus

Grass Grows Greener
01:58
|
|||
People would say when I was a lad
Why so glum why so sad
You’ve got your whole life ahead of you
And worries and fears well you have few
And I said
Chorus
The grass it grows greener on the other side
The grass grows greener on the other side
The sun is high and the water’s wide
Where the grass grows greener on the other side
People would say when I was young
Don’t mess around don’t have too much fun
But I had the itchiest feet in town
And I never ever ever want to settle down
So I said
Chorus
People would say in middle age
Don’t you feel trapped and in a cage
I said no I did it all when in my prime
Now it’s you singing my old rhyme
And they said
Chorus
People do say now that I’m old
How are you so fearless and so bold
Of the end, of death, everyone fear
But you have grown more careless through the years
And I said
Chorus

Izzy
06:02
|
|||
Back round the turn of the 20th century
There was a maid by the name of Izzy
Not from nobility but neither was she poor
Now she’s known forever more as
The first girl in Northamptonshire, to love a dark skinned man
The last girl in Northamptonshire, tarred and feathered as she ran
There was a labourer on Cank Farm
Both tall and wide, never did any harm
Straight from the new world descent from slavery
And then he met the maiden Izzy
The first....
Izzy taught letters to the Cank farm girls
They loved her charm and her long luscious curls
They weren’t the only ones, the labourer too
Izzy looked back, her heart grew
The first...
Illicit love was all they ever knew
But of a strength known to few
They met in the fields and forests of Cank farm
And couldn’t know she would soon come to harm
The first...
Build into downstrums on Am7
Soon the Sprattoners they found out
They cried for shame up went a shout
Women plucked chickens while they still flapped
The men burnt pitch and set a trap...for
They caught Izzy at the top of the Sands
The men poured tar. The women held her hands
Threw on the feathers such pain she never knew
They let go. Down the sands Izzy flew
Watching on was Izzy’s youngest niece
Weeping fell to her knees
Kept the secret ‘til her death bed
There to her Great-Granddaughter said....never forget
The first...

Charlie The Crow
03:28
|
|||
Someone once asked me what I ‘member bout my Nan and Pap
She was a short skinny woman he’s a tall ruddy faced chap
He’d let out a scream when he put on aftershave
But the thing I ‘member most was a crow my pappy saved
Charlie the crow, called out his name
In the sun and the pouring rain
Charlie the crow is always the same
Charlie the crow’s pecking at my toes again
I lived there for a while when I was just a lad
Had to stay there coz my Mum was feeling bad
They put me in the garden and worked me like a slave
But the thing I ‘member most was a crow my pappy saved
Charlie the crow, called out his name
In the sun and the pouring rain
Charlie the crow is always the same
Charlie the crow’s pecking at my toes again
When pappy died it hit everybody hard
I went to see Charlie one last time in the yard
But he’d been sent off to an aviary
Once in a while I could go and see
Of course I miss pappy now he’s in his grave
But the thing I miss most is the crow my pappy saved
Charlie the crow, called out his name
In the sun and the pouring rain
Charlie the crow is always the same
Charlie the crow’s pecking at my toes again

When I was bound apprentice in old Northamptonshire
I served me master truly for seven long year
Then I took up game poaching on this ya now must hear
A shiny night is a mighty light any season of the year
My companion and I we were setting four or five
And when we took them up again we caught a hare alive
A gamekeeper was passing as for him we did not fear
A shiny night is a mighty light any season of the year
We slung him over our shoulders and wandered through the town
We called unto the neighbourhood and sold him for a crown
We sold him for a crown me boys but I dare not tell ya where
A shiny night is a mighty light any season of the year
Now game is banned fae poachers but I do not think tis fare
Good luck to every gamekeeper who's willing to buy a hare
Bad luck to every gamekeeper who would not sell his deer
A shiny night is a mighty light any season of the year

Ripples
03:20
|
|||
There’s a man who built upon a rock, To the ticking of a clock
As his life was speeding past
When he laid the final brick, he’d caught the carrot lost the stick
So he gave it all away
There’s nothing solid we can leave that’ll last down through the centuries
Nothing that won’t crumble into dust
But the ripples of our love and hate never stop keep going straight
When everything we’ve made has turned to rust
There’s a gal who raised a boy alone, Had no money ‘til he’d grown
And always felt she failed him
But he grew up with lots of care, He was always helpful always fair
And he never wanted for a thing
There’s nothing solid we can leave that’ll last down through the centuries
Nothing that won’t crumble into dust
But the ripples of our love and hate never stop keep going straight
When everything we’ve made has turned to rust
There’s a family who lost it all, It was illness caused the fall
And their hope was shorn away
Homeless on the streets they roam. Till a man gave them a home
A man raised by a single gal
There’s nothing solid we can leave that’ll last down through the centuries
Nothing that won’t crumble into dust
But the ripples of our love and hate never stop keep going straight
When everything we’ve made has turned to rust

Fish Fly
02:03
|
|||
Fish fly, jump out of the water, just like they oughta, and to have a little fun
Steam spirals, up off of the surface, aint got no purpose, 'cept to catch the morning sun
Bees buzz, about in the daisies, they're looking lazy, but they keep going all day
Birds sing, so sweet in the chorus, it might be for us, and to show a better way

Wade in the Water
03:21
|
|||
Wade in the water, wade in the water, wade in the water
God's gonna trouble the water
Who's that yonder all dressed in white
Wade in the water
Looks like the leader of the Israelites
God's gonna trouble the water
Wade...
Who's that yonder all dressed in red
Wade in the water
Looks like the children that Moses led
God's gonna trouble the water
Wade...
Who's that yonder all dressed in blue
Wade in the water
Must be the children a coming through
God's gonna trouble the water
Wade...
If you don't believe I've been redeemed
Wade in the water
Just follow me to the Jordan stream
Where God's gonna trouble the water
Wade...

John the Revelator
02:58
|
|||
Who's that writing, John the Revelator
Tell me who's that writing, John the Revelator
Who's that writing, John the Revelator
Wrote the book of the seven seals
What's John writing, ask the Revelator
Tell me what's John writing, ask the Revelator
What's John writing, ask the Revelator
Wrote a book of the seven seals
Ooh ooh why me thousands cried holy bound for some son of our God
Daugher of zion, Judah the lion, he redeemeth and bought us with his blood
Who's that writing...
John the Revelator, great advocator, gets em on the battle of Zion
Lord telling the story, rising up in glory, crying lord don't you love some I
Who's that writing...
Moses to Moses watching the flock saw the bush where they had to stop
Lord told Moses pull off your shoes, out of the flock well you I choose
Who's that writing
